Southern Europe

The Alpine transit route between Germany and Italy – across the Brenner Pass, the Tauern route through Austria and the St. Gotthard Tunnel and Lötschberg route through Switzerland – is the busiest transport axis in European goods traffic. Kombiverkehr currently offers 31 trains every day in each direction between Germany and Italy.

Gateway services from the northern Italy terminals of Busto-Arsizio (near Milan), Verona and Segrate (near Milan), open up the whole Apennine peninsula, while the ferry between Brindisi and Patras allows connections to and from Greece.

On the Brenner route we co-operate with a number of operators, including the privatee railway operators Lokomotion and Rail Traction Company (RTC) in Italy. All shuttle trains between Germany and Italy via Gotthard are handled end-to-end by a train company, ensuring high reliability and punctuality.

The Cologne - Aarau v.v. shuttle train links Germany with the economic heartland of Switzerland.
